Antenna Case Studies - Frequently Asked Questions
Questions our engineers are asked most often about custom antenna development projects.
What kinds of antenna projects are covered in these case studies?
The case studies cover 14 delivered projects, from a dual band sector antenna for mining communications and a 617-3800MHz 5G MIMO panel with 9-11dBi gain and H+V polarization, to full-band anti-drone omni antennas, a dual polarized parabolic dish for 6400-7200MHz, a 380-520MHz low profile ceiling antenna, dual band grid antennas for 2.4GHz and 5GHz, a 5GHz MIMO sector antenna for 360-degree WiFi coverage and a plastic fiberglass radome for radar antennas.
How does a custom antenna project start?
Send us the frequency band or bands, gain, polarization, connector, mounting and the environment the antenna will work in - for example the mining, anti-drone, radar or WiFi bridging cases shown above. Our engineers review the requirement and reply with a proposed design and a quotation, usually within 1-2 working hours.
Are these antennas standard catalogue models or custom designs?
They are custom designs built around a customer requirement, although some share their platform with catalogue models. The 5G MIMO panel covers 617-3800MHz in a single antenna with 9-11dBi gain, the 900MHz MIMO sector antenna is the high-gain version, and the 380-520MHz low profile ceiling antenna covers a wider band than the individual band models.
What about multi-band designs such as anti-drone antennas?
The multi-band anti-drone case covers 433MHz, 915MHz, 1575MHz, 2445MHz and 5850MHz in one antenna, and the full-band omni version radiates those bands from a single 360-degree housing. Combining bands in one radome means fewer antennas on the mast and less cabling to install.
Do you provide measured data, and what are the lead times for a custom project?
Each prototype is swept for VSWR across its full operating band, and gain and radiation patterns are measured in our own microwave anechoic chamber, so the sample you evaluate comes with measured figures rather than estimates. Sample lead time is 3-5 working days for existing models and 15-25 working days for mass production; a new custom design is scheduled after the specification is confirmed. MOQ depends on the model and configuration and is confirmed together with the quotation.
