High-Gain 900MHz MIMO Sector Antenna

Background:

A Thai client approached RF element with a request for a high-gain 900MHz MIMO sector antenna that could handle dual-polarization. The goal was to have an antenna that could operate from 698MHz to 960MHz and deliver a gain of at least 17dBi. The antenna needed to be powerful yet compact, a tall order given the lower frequency band and high gain demands.

Challenges:

The main hurdle was to craft a high-gain sector antenna that didn't balloon in size for the lower frequency range. Typically, these bands need bigger antennas for high gain, which isn't always feasible for installations.

Our team of R&D engineers tackled this by designing a ±45° dual-polarized MIMO antenna with a twist:

- Dual-Polarized Design: Opting for a ±45° dual-polarized setup gave us a performance and space efficiency edge over single-polarized options.

- Die-Casting Aluminum Elements: With our cutting-edge 900MHz die-casting aluminum tech, we crafted a lighter, sturdier antenna element that really upped the performance.

- Performance Testing and Refinement: After the first round of testing, we made a few tweaks to nail the customer's gain and beamwidth specs.
