Background

A Finnish client approached RF element with a unique challenge: designing a multi-band antenna capable of operating across various frequencies (433MHz, 915MHz, 1575MHz, 2445MHz, 5850MHz) for Multi-Band Anti-Drone Antenna (UAV) operations. The client's requirements were specific, demanding a compact, octagonal-shaped antenna with a particular distribution of ports.

Challenges

The project's complexity stemmed from the need to integrate multiple frequency bands into a single, compact antenna design. Additionally, the antenna had to be aesthetically pleasing and functional, fitting seamlessly into the client's counter-UAV system.

RF element's Solution

Our team of engineers embarked on an innovative design process to meet the client's specifications. The solution involved the development of several custom circuit boards, each tailored to operate at specific frequencies.

  1. Dual-Band Circuit Board Placement: We began by integrating a dual-band circuit board capable of operating at 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz. This board was strategically positioned at the top of the antenna to maximize signal reception and minimize interference.

  2. Octagonal Shape with Aluminum Reflectors: To achieve the desired octagonal shape, we surrounded the antenna with aluminum reflectors. These reflectors not only contributed to the antenna's unique form but also enhanced signal reflection and overall performance.

  3. Frequency-specific Circuit Board Distribution: The circuit boards for 433MHz, 915MHz, and 1575MHz were evenly distributed across the aluminum reflectors. This careful arrangement ensured optimal signal distribution and reception across all specified frequencies.

  4. SMA Interface Ports: Each antenna port was equipped with an SMA interface, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of counter-UAV devices and systems.

Performance Testing and Iterations

Our engineers conducted multiple rounds of performance testing, making iterative improvements to the design based on the results. This rigorous process ensured that the final product met the client's stringent performance criteria.

Final Product

The culmination of our efforts resulted in a multi-band, full-spectrum Anti-Drone Antenna that not only satisfied the client's operational needs but also exceeded their expectations in terms of size and design.
